There is nothing more satisfying than a good bathroom before and after story, especially when it happens right here in South Central Pennsylvania. At O’Hanlon Kitchen and Bath, we’ve had the privilege of transforming outdated, cramped, or poorly functioning bathrooms into modern spaces. These bathroom renovation projects showcase our team’s dedication to quality, creativity, and client satisfaction. These real-life remodels offer inspiration and insight into what’s possible with a bathroom remodel in South Central PA.
Project 1: Sanctuary Bliss
Before:
This dated bathroom was functional but far from stylish. The original space featured a bulky tub on the floor, minimal lighting, and inadequate storage. The space was unwelcoming and dark, but we had just the solution.
After:
We opened the room up by removing the old tub and replacing it with a free-standing tub to add more space to the room. We choose soft, neutral colors to bring warmth to the room along with natural materials like wood. We preserved the beautiful stone wall but brought it to the forefront and made it the main attraction. We also added a floor-to-ceiling glass shower with dual shower heads. Then the finishing touches with ambient lighting brought the sanctuary suite together.
Project 2: Sage Serenity
Before:
Our second project focused on a small guest bathroom that hadn’t been updated since the early 2000s in Dallastown, PA. It was hard, dark wallpaper that made the room feel small. The tile flooring was old and becoming discolored. The porcelain shower/tub was outdated and needed a refresh.
After:
We first updated the shower to a gorgeous glass shower with marble tile walls. The flooring was changed to black and white hexagon tiles to preserve the home’s charm. The vanity was upgraded to sage green cabinets with a marble-like vanity top. All the fixtures are a matte black, bringing a modern look to the space. This remodel blends contemporary style and functional touches to create a relaxing environment.
Project Goals, Challenges, and Solutions
Each bathroom renovation project starts with a clear understanding of the client’s goals. In both projects, homeowners wanted to:
- Improve space functionality
- Modernize the aesthetic
- Increase home value
However, every project comes with its own set of challenges. In project 1, the existing plumbing layout restricted certain design elements. Our solution? We adjusted the location of fixtures without requiring significant structural changes, saving the homeowners both time and money.
For Project 2, the challenge was to modernize the original layout. Our solution? We modernized every inch of the room from the shower to the vanity to the floor. Minor design changes can go a long way in a small bathroom.
Design Choices and Material Upgrades
The right material can elevate any remodel from simple to stunning. In both projects, we prioritized durability, style, and ease of maintenance:
- Tile: From marble-look porcelain to classic subway, tile is both practical and beautiful. We use moisture-resistant options to ensure longevity.
- Vanities & Storage: Floating vanities with integrated storage help visually open the space while still offering functionality.
- Fixtures: Matte black and polished chrome finishes bring a touch of elegance, aligning with many design themes.
- Lighting: Layered lighting, including ambiance, task, and accent, ensures each space is both beautiful and functional.
Our design team works closely with each client to select materials that reflect their unique taste and lifestyle, all while staying within budget.
